There are many communities in Whatcom County, each with its own unique history and flavor. Some, like Buffalo Corners and Yager, exist only in memories or records of days gone by. Others, like Custer and Laurel, are modern communities even if they don't make it onto many maps. These community pages are intended to be an resource for people who live in or have some connection to that community, or for anyone else interested in learning about them. The communities will be "managed" by one or several "Community Curators". Your mission, should you choose to accept it, can be any of the following:

  • Write a description of the community
  • Write a history of the community
  • Collect tidbits of information about the community's past
  • Copy the "gossip columns" from the newspapers
  • Send in your recollections of life in that community
  • Share photographs and drawings of the community

If you would like to "adopt" a community, please email
